There are three things that mostly draw me to other people.
First of all, how often they smile. Secondly, their sense of humor. And thirdly, their personal stories.
There is something tremendously appealing in people’s stories. That is why every time I meet somebody new, I bombard them with questions about themselves. I want to know everything about them. Who they are, where they came from, what are they dreams and fears, their successes and failures, if they have ever fallen in love, where they have traveled, what are the things that make them laugh.
It’s like reading a book. Only the characters are actual people. And the story has no ending. It evolves right there, in front of your eyes, and you can become a part of it if you want to.
So, like in books, there are captivating narratives and indifferent ones; good stories and bad stories. Some of them stay with you forever. They even have the power to transform your life, while you forget others as soon as you hear them, simply because they didn’t ignite your interest or because they didn’t touch you.
Just like with books, you can’t like every story you hear. Fortunately, there are plenty of stories out there for every taste.
So far, I’ve been lucky enough to meet wonderful people with very interesting stories to tell. And these are the people who stuck with me along the way and somehow became part of my story and made a real difference to it.
And that’s one of the greatest things in life, isn’t it? To find other people to share your story with.
